Howe Park Shooting Sends Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento County deputies are investigating a gunfire incident that occurred late Saturday at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment deputies were breaking up an unsanctioned gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

How It Started

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the park shortly before 6:30 PM after learning of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Following that, a second caller reported concerning a potential altercation occurring inside the park.

A sheriff's airship flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Regardless, it was evident that several hundred individuals had congregated at Howe Park in an unauthorized manner.

When the Shots Rang Out

Responding units set about removing people from the park by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems commanding the crowd to go home. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for the gathering to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The rapid Sacramento park shooting 2026 succession of shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies at once began identifying shooting victims.

Four People Shot

In total, four individuals were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Emergency physicians noted that two were treated for serious injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one victim's wounds were minor. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento Metro Fire were called to the scene and helped care for those with gunshot wounds prior to hospital transport.

Crime Scene Evidence

The bulk of the shooting was believed to have been concentrated along the Cottage Way corridor next to the Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators found additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Round impacts were discovered in the iron perimeter fence adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. These findings pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown as a precaution. CSI investigators and detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Reports confirmed over scanner radio traffic established that a vehicle identified as a Kia was intercepted in Solano County. Four occupants were taken into custody. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to collect the individuals for questioning. Video evidence made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
